چکیده

The Support Vector Machine error bound is a function of the margin and radius. Standard SVM algorithms maximize the margin within a given feature space, therefore the radius is fixed and thus ignored in the optimization. We propose an extension of the standard SVM optimization in which we also account for the radius in order to produce an even tighter error bound than what we get by controlling only for the margin. We use a second set of parameters, μ, that control the radius introducing like that an explicit feature weighting mechanism in the SVM algorithm. We impose an l1 constraint on μ which results in a sparse vector, thus performing feature selection. Our original formulation is not convex, we give a convex approximation and show how to solve it. We experiment with real world datasets and report very good predictive performance compared to standard SVM. DO, Thi Thanh Huyen, KALOUSIS, Alexandros, HILARIO, Mélanie. Convex formulations of radius-margin based Support Vector Machines

We consider Support Vector Machines (SVMs) learned together with linear transformations of the feature spaces on which they are applied. Under this scenario the radius of the smallest data enclosing sphere is no longer fixed. Therefore optimizing the SVM error bound by considering both the radius and the margin has the potential to deliver a tighter error bound. In this paper we present two nov...

Adaptive Margin Support Vector Machines

In this chapter we present a new learning algorithm, Leave{One{Out (LOO{) SVMs and its generalization Adaptive Margin (AM{) SVMs, inspired by a recent upper bound on the leave{one{out error proved for kernel classiiers by Jaakkola and Haussler. The new approach minimizes the expression given by the bound in an attempt to minimize the leave{one{out error. This gives a convex optimization problem...

F-SVM: Combination of Feature Transformation and SVM Learning via Convex Relaxation

The generalization error bound of support vector machine (SVM) depends on the ratio of radius and margin, while standard SVM only considers the maximization of the margin but ignores the minimization of the radius. Several approaches have been proposed to integrate radius and margin for joint learning of feature transformation and SVM classifier. However, most of them either require the form of...

Hyper spectral remote sensing imagery, due to its rich source of spectral information provides an efficient tool for ground classifications in complex geographical areas with similar classes. Referring to robustness of Support Vector Machines (SVMs) in high dimensional space, they are efficient tool for classification of hyper spectral imagery. However, there are two optimization issues which s...

A Pac-bayesian Margin Bound for Linear Classiiers: Why Svms Work

We present a bound on the generalisation error of linear classiiers in terms of a reened margin quantity on the training set. The result is obtained in a PAC-Bayesian framework and is based on geometrical arguments in the space of linear classiiers. The new bound constitutes an exponential improvement of the so far tightest margin bound by Shawe-Taylor et al. 8] and scales logarithmically in th...
